CONSTANCE and PHILIPINNE PROUX

Akkar

[ʿ Akkā r]. A sombre, saturated sonorous universe. A bold and direct attack in A major. The momentum is stopped dead by the reinforced double k. Play of reflections and resonance in A minor, the weakened echo fades out on an r, as light as a breath departing for the afterlife.

aKkar. A remote mountainous region in northern Lebanon. The voice of nature, one that is mineral as well as vegetal, a luminous serenity far removed from contemporary tension. A Biblical immutability, like these olive trees in the storm.

akKar. About 250,000 inhabitants, 60% of whom are living below the poverty line. Mass influxes of Syrian refugees against a background of economic insecurity and religious tension. The voices of humans, Lebanese or Syrian, whose strength to live is obvious in spite of the fragility of their living conditions.

akkAr. Individual stories and trajectories narrated. The voice of the objects . Those taken by Syrian refugees in their flight and that recall tender memories or terrifying war stories.

akkaR. Doubt, enthusiasm, terror and reconstruction. A more personal voice questioning the appropriate distance to be adopted.
